First...how do you say it? WoFe (woo-fee) is pronounced like wolfee. Think of the wo from woman and the fe from female.
WoFe stands for Strong Woman. But how did this come about? It truly is a story that will end with "You just had to be there" but I'll give it my best shot anyways.
Way back in High School, one of my besties and I were ranting about some old boyfriend or other and in one of our many many letters that we wrote back and forth to each other (which, btw, is NOT what you're supposed to do in class), I decided that we were both strong enough to not have to be dependent on guys. Now, all you folks of the male species, allow me to pause a brief moment and inform you that I have NOTHING against guys. Okay, so now with that disclaimer in mind, let me continue. Where was I? Oh yes, I had decided that we were both strong enough to not have to be dependant on guys. So I removed any male instance from my titles. I believe my graph looked darn close to the one in the top left corner. It was simple math, really. (Woman - man) + (Female - male) = WoFe. We actually laughed our butts off at this but it somehow stuck. Reflecting on it, I can see it as a simple symbol of strength, courage and independence. We started incorporating the word into our lives and here we are.
Many years later...I was looking online for some nice Pride T-Shirts (yes, I'm one of "those" *wink*) that stated who I was but didn't jump out at any passersby by stating I'm a raging homo. Next thing I know, I'm driving down the freeway to go to my Aunt's house and BOOM! It hits me between the eyes like a tuna fish from around the corner. We can make some apparel...in fact, we can make a whole site dedicated to the female strength. naturally, I called my partner in crime and said "Hey, I've got an idea." Now, given our past, her first response was simple. She said "uh-oh." Lucky for me, this time it was actually a good idea and Wofedom was born. Poof! Here we are.
