Past Remains

A love so cherished you hold it tight,...too tight...
with both hands pressed against your heart
You find that the love has crumbled in your palms
so you let go to walk a different path...
to join a new venture,
crushing the remains under your boots as you walk by.

Time passes and when you look back,
you find that they are no longer remains of the past
but a wrinkled hope that shouldn't have been released so soon.

Memories haunt you anew,
yet you don't know if to believe they are as happy as you dream.
Should you revisit the old trail?
Would you be able to pull the wrinkles from the past or
is it best to crumble the past as before?
